Learning with Maps

In this studio we will create online educational resources that help undergraduate students learn digital methods for mapping and spatial analysis. We will design and evaluate these learning materials by applying cognitive research on spatial thinking, multimedia learning, and instructional design. Studio participants will engage with an academic department or Middlebury program in order to identify existing and potential applications of digital mapping and spatial analysis, produce distributable multimedia tutorials to help novices integrate software techniques with more general concepts of spatial representation and analysis, and assess the effectiveness of their instructional design on student learning. (GEOG 0120; Approval required) 3 hrs. sem.
