The notion of the divine feminine is a key feature of Hindu traditions. This course will introduce you to the classical mythologies, practices, and rituals associated with the worship of goddesses as well as their visual representations. We will also examine the significance of the divine feminine in various contemporary socio-cultural and political contexts, paying particular attention to the cults of "living goddesses" that have gained a considerable following both within and outside India among Hindus and non-Hindus alike. 3 hrs. sem.
