Spanish Literary Realism

Literary Realism, a trend in the second half of 19th century Spain, depicts contemporary life and society as it is instead of a romanticized or stylized presentation. In this course we will read the most significant writers for the study of Spanish Realism: Valera, Pereda, Pardo Bazán, Clarín, and Galdós. Students will be required to work with theory and criticism. Satisfies the IS advanced language requirement in Spanish.
