Global Health and the Environment

In this course we will examine current debates about and theories for interpreting the relationships between human and environmental health. Drawing on the theoretical and methodological approaches of medical anthropology and environmental anthropology, in particular we will consider the following topics: the impact of the production and consumption of environmental toxins on human health; the impacts of climate change on disease distribution; the production and consumption of biomedical drugs; and efforts to reconnect human and environmental health, specifically the environmental justice movement and the field of ecological (or conservation) medicine.
