Sociology of Food
Sociology of Food
Using a systems approach, we will critically explore sociological perspectives and methods to analyze the social organization and dynamics of local, regional, national, and global agri-food systems. We will examine commonalities and differences of food systems between communities, places, regions, and nation-states. We will explore theoretical and empirical problems, using literature from different disciplines (such as rural sociology, anthropology, food and environmental studies, ecology, and other interrelated disciplines). By critically examining a final case study, students will learn both theoretical and practical implications of human dimensions in current agri-food systems. (Sociology)
