SPAN 6741A
Non-Fiction Creative Writing
Non Fiction Creative Writing
“Non-fiction” is a genre that includes all those texts that seek to narrate real, empirical, observable facts, with the tools of both literature and journalism. This course seeks to guide students in the daily writing of non-fiction texts, such as journalistic chronicles, diaries, autobiography, interviews, travel literature, and even texts on the Internet, among others. The exercises will take as a starting point the reading of some examples made by emblematic authors of current Latin American literature - Leila Guerriero, Juan Villoro, Martín Caparrós, Cristian Alarcón or Cristina Rivera Garza - as well as the surrounding reality itself (walks through the natural environment, conversations with friends, reading newspapers, plays or films, photographs, concerts, also in accordance with the program's calendar of activities). By the end of the six week period, we will have created a “virtual book” or blog with the texts that each one chooses from his or her own production.
