This Global Course for the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Action offers a rigorous, interdisciplinary examination of Bhutan's unique development model, centered on the Gross National Happiness (GNH) framework and its alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Delivered in partnership with Royal Thimphu College, the course spans three phases—Pre-departure, an In-Country Immersive Program (January 11–21, 2026), and a Post-Travel Module. Utilizing the lenses of Conflict Transformation (CT) and Intercultural Communication (ICC), students will explore how Bhutan harmonizes tradition, modernity, conservation, and globalization. Activities, which include seminars, site visits, and high-level policy dialogues, are designed to build field-based research skills and intercultural competence. By the end, students will be able to critically evaluate the GNH Index as a policy model, analyze Bhutan’s SDG strategies, and apply CT approaches to interpret tensions in development. A key requirement is maintaining a daily reflective journal during the in-country experience, with learning culminating in a final multimedia presentation for a spring showcase.
