Aleksandr Pushkin: Poetry and Prose

The course offers an in-depth study of major texts by the most famous 19th-century classic, tracing his evolution from early Romantic experiments to the mature works that shaped Russian literary tradition and became integral to Russian linguistic and cultural identity. Through a close reading of lyric poems, narrative verse, and short fiction, we will examine Pushkin’s innovations in genre, voice, and narrative form with particular attention to texts that are foundational to Russian cultural competency.
