Foreign Policy of Post-Soviet Russia, 1992-2026

This course offers a historical and analytical overview of Russian foreign policy from the collapse of the Soviet Union to the present. It explores how Russia’s international behavior has been shaped not only by power and interests, but also by changing narratives of identity, status, and belonging. Organized chronologically, the course examines key periods – from the search for recognition in the 1990s to the assertion of sovereignty and the breakdown of integration in the 2010s and 2020s – while situating Russia’s trajectory within global shifts in the post–Cold War order. Counts as a course in history, culture, and politics.
