Digital Humanities and Women in Art
In this course students will be introduced to digital humanities tools and theoretical approaches to learn about women’s contributions to the history of art as makers, audiences, subjects, and scholars. Through a combination of readings, discussions, and hands-on projects, we will explore how digital methods—such as text mining, image analysis, mapping, and network visualization—can enrich our understanding of artworks, artists, and cultural networks in early modern Europe (1300–1700). Students will gain practical skills while critically reflecting on the promises and limitations of digital approaches in art historical research.
