Middlebury College and American Higher Education

The story of Middlebury College is remarkable because of what it has revealed about the broader dynamics and debates in American higher education over the past two hundred years. In this course we will examine the value of the traditional curriculum, the decision for co-education, the evolving strategies to promote Middlebury, the ascent of intercollegiate athletics, the internationalization of the College, the rise of student activism, and the current challenges that Middlebury faces through readings, films and visiting presenters.
