Neurogenomics
Neurogenomics
Recent advances in genomics underlie profound shifts in our ability to identify and understand diseases of the nervous system. Genomics skillsets are therefore increasingly important in research and medicine. In this hands-on course students will be introduced to core concepts and tools for genome assembly and annotation. Students will learn theoretical instruction with live coding sessions and student-centered, interactive activities. We will explore the foundations of genome sequencing, bioinformatic tools for quality assessment and assembly, and gain practical experience annotating genes involved in nervous system development and disease. Students will use real-world datasets and perform their analyses in a high-performance computing environment. Evaluation will focus on successful development of coding skills, working knowledge of genomics, and practical application of tools. No prior coding skills necessary. (NSCI 251)
