Feminist Podcasting
Feminist Podcasting
At this historical moment, much of podcasting is dominated by “manosphere” podcasters. The manosphere is a discourse not just about what it means to be a man (or a woman), but also about racial supremacy, nationalism, and a return to an ideal past that never existed, a retrotopia. But what might it mean to interrupt the logics of manosphere podcasting with feminist podcasts? How would an explicitly feminist approach to gender, race, and nation create a different narrative landscape to imagine the world anew? In this course we will learn about the creation and political effects of manosphere podcasting and then develop our own feminist podcasts as a counter discourse. We will write scripts, record, edit, produce, and get out into the public sphere an episode of a feminist podcast. This course is part of the Axinn Center for the Humanities Public Humanities Labs Initiative.
