Critical Readings in Evolutionary Theory and Social Science

In this course students will be introduced to the philosophy of science and how it supports the social sciences. Students will learn about scientific inquiry through readings of key texts in Evolutionary Theory. Discussions will consider how evolutionary theory can explain the ways that evolutionary processes shape social interaction, social cooperation, and self-interested behaviors. We will connect these perspectives to a discussion of the social sciences and explore the extent to which they embrace a philosophy of science that focuses on complexity and change.
