Italian Poetry of the Early Twentieth Century

The course focuses on Italian poetry written in the first half of the twentieth century and invites students to a comparative reading with reference to poetry from other European literatures (especially French) as well as world poetry influential on specific poets. The main poets in question are: Umberto Saba, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Eugenio Montale, Salvatore Quasimodo. There will also be a consideration of so-called minor poets in the first half of the twentieth century (Dino Campana, Guido Gozzano, Clemente Rebora, to name a few).
