Solutions

We live in a world of problems — global warming, inequality, discrimination, waste, species extinction, domestic violence, and a myriad of other issues occupy the headlines and social media. This constant assault of challenges can feel overwhelming, yet we rarely hear about solutions, nor do we have space to create our own. In this experiential, project-based course, we will identify a specific problem we want to solve. Together we will research the problem, explore the solution landscape, and apply Google Ventures' design thinking process to move from ideation and research to the launch of a high-impact solution. Students should expect research, hands-on work, iterative thinking, and active collaboration throughout the term.



Jay Friedlander is a professor/entrepreneur who has over a decade of experience working with liberal arts students to transform their ideas into for profit and nonprofit enterprises. Jay is the Sharpe-McNally Chair of Green and Socially Responsible Business at College of the Atlantic and has consulted with Fortune 100 companies and helped raise millions for a natural food venture.
