Translating Medical Innovation
In this course we will examine how breakthroughs in life science and medical technology translate—or fail to translate—into improved patient care. Using CRISPR-based genetic medicines and surgical robotics as core examples, this course will follow innovations from scientific discovery through capital formation, clinical trials, reimbursement decisions, and health system adoption. Through interdisciplinary readings and case discussions, students will analyze how uncertainty, incentives, and ethics shape patient access to new therapies. Students will gain an integrated view of innovation from the laboratory to the bedside.
