Gender and Political Philosophy

In this course students will read major texts in the history of Western political philosophy to address central questions on the relationship between gender and politics. Are there politically relevant differences between the needs and virtues of the sexes? If so, are they the product of nature or convention? What are the demands of justice with respect to gender? We will approach these and other questions through studies of gender in the history of political philosophy, fundamental feminist debates, and analyses of masculinity in classical and contemporary thought.
