Russian Language Pedagogy: Basics of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language

The course will focus on linguistic and methodological aspects of teaching Russian as a foreign language. We will consider topical questions of teaching Russian grammar, including the case system, verbal aspect, verbs of motion, participles, and the peculiarities of Russian syntax. Students will examine various successful approaches to the introduction and practice of the most challenging linguistic issues for learners of Russian. We will also discuss different models and methodological principles of teaching a foreign language. We will analyze the concept of text-centric and student-centered teaching, practice writing lesson plans, create task-based assignments, and consider a variety of methodological techniques for activating students' speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills from beginner to advanced levels. Counts as a course in language, linguistics, and pedagogy.
