Second Language Acquisition
This course is an introduction to the field of Second Language Acquisition and its pedagogical applications in the Spanish classroom. The course will be structured around the topic of second language learning theories and pedagogical applications and will focus on the social, psychological, cognitive and linguistic challenges of learning and teaching Spanish. A variety of readings on second language acquisition will be covered to understand the theoretical explanations that account for acquisition of a second language. During the course, students will conduct practical exercises for the Spanish as a Second Language classroom in curriculum and course design, materials development, lesson planning, and in-class expectations, based on theoretical principals.
