Italian Culture I: from Fascism to the Economic Boom

This course deepens the skills of conversation, writing, and reading while consolidating knowledge of the more difficult points of grammar. Using a variety of primary texts--including newspaper articles, speeches, newsreels, essays, films, and literature-- students will learn firsthand about the history and culture of early twentieth-century Italy. Students will also have the chance to "relive" history by assuming the identity of real men and women who lived at this time. The course concludes with a public presentation of a final project. (ITAL 0250) 8 hrs. lect./disc.; 2 hrs. screen.
