Wisdom in an Information Age: Philosophical and Religious Perspectives on Technology

In this course we will chart a path from Techné to Twitter as we consider philosophical and religious interpretations of technology. We will first ask—What is technology? Can it be defined? We will read accounts on the origins of technology in philosophy alongside stories of technology in myth and scripture. Next we will consider critiques of technology as articulated in the history of philosophy, ethics, and theology. Finally, we will reflect on the contemporary ubiquity of technology as it raises questions of nature and human nature, and the future thereof.
