Theatre Arts in the English Classroom: A Pathway for Learning & Community Engagement

In this course students will be introduced to innovative arts practices as a means for teaching literature in primary and secondary classrooms.  Participants will investigate a variety of arts pedagogies and how they socially and academically prepare learners for post-secondary success.  In collaboration with Courageous Stage, an education division of Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater, and their successful outreach programs to Vermont schools, students will develop curriculums and bring their work into Addison County classrooms. This immersive course links the arts and literature, creates equity in the classroom, and fosters community engagement. Note: This course will include a substantial time commitment off-campus and outside of regular class meetings. Please consult with the instructor if you have questions.
