Senior Seminar: Analysis and Engagement
In this course senior music majors will develop a deeper understanding of music by coupling accumulated knowledge with new study, to challenge and expand our definitions of structure and tonality in music. Students will analyze music aurally, from printed scores, and with visual elements including dance and recorded performances. Students will produce written assignments, engage in seminar discussions, and develop analytical presentations for public or department events on and off campus (to be determined each semester). Repertoire includes music since 1913, with emphasis on 21st century compositions; earlier music may also be included. Students may include a topic in their senior work in music for analysis and presentation. 3 hrs. lect./disc.
