Career design is an essential skill whether you are just starting along your career trajectory, or you are a mid-career professional. CACS’s one-day Career Management Workshop synthesizes your academic and professional goals, and begins your preparation for future internship and job opportunities. Together we will identify personal strengths, build a professional brand image, hone your professional documents and plan your professional relationship-building outreach.

In this three and half hour, Saturday morning workshop we will work with you to explore, clarify, and activate your professional vision. You will begin by asking yourself two key questions:

1) Reflecting upon my strengths, goals, and interests, how should I build my professional image or personal brand?

2) How can I effectively communicate my strengths across my resume and cover letter, and through networking and informational interviewing opportunities?

Topic covered will include: Career Design, Professional Identity, Personal Branding, Resumes, Cover Letters, Networking (including LinkedIn), and Informational Interviewing.

This course is highly recommended for first-semester students; although, students in any semester are welcome to attend, especially if you haven’t taken any career management courses yet at MIIS. No tuition is charged for this non-credit course. All students are welcome, although the NPTS, IEP, and DPP advisors will be teaching the course.

This is the first part of a series of Spring 2020 workshops. Three individual sessions will be offered the second half of the semester, after spring break, on these topics:

1) Interviewing

2) Job and Internship Search

3) Compensation Negotiation

Lunch will be served after the session ends at 12:30 pm during a speed-networking event with select faculty. There will be a chance to learn more about your colleagues in your own and other programs, as well as get to know your advisors better.

Note: Everyone must register in BannerWeb for this course. We request that students bring laptops to this session.
