Career management is an essential skill whether you are just starting along your career trajectory or a mid-career professional. This course will take you through key components to managing a well-structured and productive career plan. Learn strategies and practice skills that you will need to manage your life-long career growth.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Utilize the career management cycle to mindfully navigate career moves to meet personal, professional and financial goals.

2. Use tools and network to enhance self-assessment in order to integrate professional strengths, skills and preferences into their personal branding.

3. Identify resources and best practices for career management and how to best utilize them.

4. Produce targeted, well-crafted and professional documents (i.e. resume, cover letter) and learns skills to curate your social media presence

5. Construct an organized search strategy

6. Learn the types of employers and roles in the language industry ecosystem

This course is highly recommended for first-semester TILM students. No tuition is charged for this non-credit course.

This course is delivered using a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions. Off-line study materials/resources will be posted on Canvas by Monday of each week and Instructors will hold two 30-minute synchronous wrap-up sessions to accommodate the varying time zones of students – one from 5:00 to 5:30 pm Pacific Time on Thursdays and one from 9:00 to 9:30 am Pacific Time on Fridays. Students can choose to attend one of the two sessions. Students are also encouraged to make one-on-one appointments via Handshake with their Career Advisors to start working on their individual career plans.
