The course examines the rapidly changing climate and societal dynamics of coastal California, highlighting the intricate connections and interdependence between society and the environment. By critically examining current implementation efforts to address climate crisis, the course highlights diverse pathways and solutions and explores ideas for improvement. The course is structured around California Against the Sea: Visions for Our Vanishing Coastline by Rosanna Xia. Using this book as a foundation, we will explore key questions: Who are the changemakers? What new ideas are emerging? How do these concepts apply globally? What perspectives are missing? Students will develop a formal project proposal though aimed at addressing an emerging issues along the California coast.
