Welcome to FRLA 8392, Ethnic / Linguistic Groups in the Francophone World. In this class, we will become acquainted with diverse population groups represented in key regions and specific French/Francophone countries. We will apply research, analysis, and reflection to our study of specific ethnic and linguistic groups. Three overarching frameworks: (1) Culture, Tradition and Ethnicity, (2) Religion, and (3) History, Politics and Geography, provide a consistent structure for inquiry. Within each framework, a series of interrelated subtopics will further guide our investigation. Guest speakers, video clips, contemporary French media, and other relevant primary and secondary sources will offer authentic perspectives on the chosen groups. Class activities include guest speaker events, discussions, cultural presentations, media analysis and commentary, and short exercises. Projects include biweekly reflection papers, news updates on current events in the Francophone world relevant to FRLA 8392, and a digital portfolio final project. The class will be conducted in French.
