The objective of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of sex trafficking; a complex issue rooted in intersecting inequalities. The course focuses primarily on Spanish-speaking countries and includes weekly readings, research assignments, and class discussions. Students will examine the dynamics of sex trafficking, including its causes and effects, prevalence, types of trafficking, methods employed by traffickers, the role of international communities, and grassroots initiatives to prevent and address sex trafficking. Additionally, the course develops interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational skills in Spanish at the mid- to upper-intermediate level while promoting communication, critical thinking, and civic engagement.
