Visual Cultures in the Hispanic World
The course revisits the process of modern nation building and the dissemination of nationalism through visual culture and mass media in Latin America. Most cases and artifacts for study will come from Mexico, an extremely important Spanish-speaking media market. However, examples and readings by critics from other Latin American countries (Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Nicaragua) will help us define the theoretical and methodological approaches to diverse visual artifacts including: serial novels, comics, photography, film, telenovelas and videogames.
