Developing Interpersonal Communication Skills in Second Language: Objectives, Contents, and Pedagogic Tools



This course focuses on second language teaching and more specifically on the development of interpersonal communication skills. The aim will be to train students to teach these skills.

We will seek to :

- Define proficiency in L2

- define the interpersonal communication skills compared to reading/listening and speaking/writing skills,

- identify linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic skills and analyze their relationship to interpersonal communication,

- analyze how interpersonal communication is taught in pedagogical activities for French as a foreign language (FLE),

- Identify authentic materials appropriate to teach L2 interpersonal communication.



The course will be interactive and adapted to the backgrounds and experiences of the students. It will be based on reading scientific texts and official texts for language learning (European Council, American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language) and on analyzing pedagogical resources for second language teaching (FLE textbooks for children or adults learners, web resources).
