German for STEM-Advanced

This half-credit course is intended for advanced students in German (300/400 level) who major in STEM fields and who are interested in acquiring additional scientific and technical German language skills. The materials with which students will engage range from scientific articles published in journals and magazines to visual media like diagrams and videos. Depending on students’ respective STEM disciplines, we will work with texts and materials from the natural sciences (e.g. Biology, Physics, Chemistry), Environmental Science, and Information and Computer Science. Learning activities include analyses and discussions of scientific texts and visual media, independent vocabulary acquisition tasks, and the practicing of new vocabulary and rhetorical devices in writing and in oral presentations. The course is open to students who have completed German 202 and who have not yet studied abroad.
