Content Creator Journalism

The rise of the independent journalist-creator has transformed how news and ideas reach audiences. In this course we will explore the editorial and strategic skills needed to enter that ecosystem—finding a niche, choosing a platform, and building a sustainable audience. Through case studies, hands-on exercises in video, audio, and writing, and guest speakers who are working professionals and practitioners in creator journalism, students will develop a practical understanding of the creator economy. The course culminates in a channel launch plan students can execute now or upon graduation.

Ryan Kellett '09 is co-founder of the Independent Journalism Atlas and most recently a media executive at Axios and The Washington Post. His career spans editorial leadership, audience strategy, and the emerging creator journalism economy.
