PHYS 0105A
Energy Technology
Fundamentals of Energy Technology
The world is rapidly changing, and the way that humans produce and consume energy in the coming years will profoundly impact our global environment. In this course students will investigate the technologies at play in this energy transition. Using fundamental physical principles, we will explore the limits inherent in harvesting energy from decarbonized sources like the sun, wind, and nuclear materials along with ways to more efficiently transport and expend that energy. Course assignments will include weekly homework with quantitative questions requiring a knowledge of high school algebra. Students will research contemporary energy technologies, presenting them both orally and through shorter responses and a longer paper. Core content knowledge will be assessed through quizzes and exams. 3 hrs. lect.
