Global Env Policy & Governance
The course will begin by exploring the conceptual frameworks that underpin global environmental governance, including the rules, mechanisms, processes and institutions and how the governance features have shaped effectiveness, justice, equity and legitimacy. It covers the history and evolution of global governance on water, biodiversity, CFCs, Ozone Depletion and climate change. Then the course will examine major policies and practices introduced by key players in global environmental governance, including international organizations, national governments, NGOs, MNCs and local communities. This class is designed to introduce students to the main concepts, frameworks, and actors involved in addressing environmental problems of global scale. This course will also deploy case study and role-playing simulation approaches to help students gain deeper understanding of policy concerns, dilemma, and challenges related to environment and sustainability, including development, migration, technology, trade policy and global competition.
